Hardware
PC requirements
JDX Stronghold sells as software only. Use a PC that meets the figures below, and run the 14-day trial on it with the real cameras before buying.
Minimum
| Operating system | Windows 11 or Windows 10 22H2, 64-bit. Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, 64-bit. |
|---|---|
| Processor | x64, 4 cores, 2.5 GHz or faster. No graphics card needed. |
| Memory | 8 GB |
| System drive | SSD, 128 GB, separate from the footage drives |
| Footage drives | Surveillance-rated hard drives, sized with the calculation below |
| Network | Wired Ethernet, 1 Gbit/s, on the same network as the cameras |
| Display | 1920 × 1080 for the console |
| Cameras | IP cameras with RTSP. ONVIF lets the software find them by itself. |
Recommended by site size
Recording copies each stream to disk without decoding it, so camera count costs little. The live wall and object detection are what use the processor.
| Cameras | Processor | Memory |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 8 | 4 cores, e.g. Intel Core i3 (10th gen or later), AMD Ryzen 3 | 8 GB |
| Up to 32 | 6 cores, e.g. Intel Core i5 (10th gen or later), AMD Ryzen 5 | 16 GB |
| Up to 64 | 8 cores, e.g. Intel Core i7, AMD Ryzen 7, Intel Xeon E | 32 GB |
| More than 64 | Contact us with the camera list before buying. | |
Footage storage
Each camera records at a bit rate set in the camera itself. One day of continuous recording takes about:
GB per day = bit rate in Mbit/s × 10.8
Multiply by the number of cameras and the days to keep. Motion recording uses less, by an amount that depends on the site.
| Example | Bit rate | Per camera per day | 8 cameras, 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p, H.264 | 4 Mbit/s | 43 GB | 10.4 TB |
| 4 MP, H.265 | 4 Mbit/s | 43 GB | 10.4 TB |
| 4K, H.265 | 8 Mbit/s | 86 GB | 20.7 TB |
- Use surveillance-rated drives (for example WD Purple or Seagate SkyHawk). Desktop drives are not built to write all day.
- RAID is optional and recommended. A mirror (RAID 1) or RAID 5/6 keeps recording through one drive failure.
- Fit a UPS. Ten minutes of battery covers most power cuts and lets the machine shut down cleanly on long ones.
Network and remote access
- The web interface listens on TCP 8642. The installers add the firewall rule.
- Phones and other PCs on the site network open https://<server>:8642/. The connection is encrypted with TLS. The certificate is made on the machine itself, so a browser warns once; a certificate for a domain name removes the warning.
- For access from outside the site, use a VPN to the site network. Do not forward the port to the internet without one.
- The software needs no internet connection to record. It uses one to check the system clock.
